Danielle Appeldorn

What do you do here OKWU?

I am the Coordinator for Advisement and Tulsa Daily Operations. My job includes being the Lead Advisor for the advisement team. I also track and assign rooms for current and new cohorts. My Advisement assignment is mainly Online Nursing, but I have advised for every program we offer.

What do you like most about working at OKWU?

I love the people I get to work with. The students that I interact with also make my job great! I love helping people accomplish their goals.

How did you end up here?

I moved here for a part time job as the Evening Receptionist in 2009. In 2011, I moved to the open Academic Advisor position.

Where did you originally call home?

East Liverpool, Ohio, famous for being the Pottery Capital of the World and where Pretty Boy Floyd died.

Where did you go to school and what did you study there?

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Oral Roberts University. I studied Government and History. I received my Master of Arts degree from Liberty University in Public Policy.

What is your family like?

I have one fur baby; his name is Sylvester, and he is 14 years old. The rest of my immediate family lives in Ohio.

What hobbies, activities, or topics do you most like spending time on?

I like to read and watch football. I love the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. I also love to work on political campaigns.

What is one interesting fact that many people might not know about you?

I love penguins. When I was in High School, my dad and I watched a documentary on penguins together, and since then, I have loved them. He buys me penguin themed Christmas gift every year, so I have built up quite a collection.

What is the most interesting country you have visited or would like to visit? Why?

I have only been out of country to Canada. I would love to visit Europe, especially when the tulips are blooming.

If you could go back and meet any one famous historical figure, who would you pick and why?

I think I would like to meet Abraham Lincoln. He was the first Republican President and led the nation through the Civil War. He was such a great leader and I would like to just talk to him about how he was able to deal with the war. His influence is still being felt today, and that is amazing to me.
