What do you do here OKWU?
I am an Academic Advisor for Adult and Graduate Studies.
What do you like most about working at OKWU?
I enjoy helping people reach their educational dreams. Education plays a huge part in changing lives.
How did you end up here?
I finished the Master of Education degree with OKWU in January of 2015. I chose to apply for the advisor job because I was familiar with OKWU’s mission and vision through the program. I have been a science teacher for the last 5 years and felt God calling me to a place outside of the classroom.
Where did you originally call home?
I grew up in Duncan, OK which is in the southwest part of the state. My family moved to Owasso, OK seven years ago.
Where did you go to school and what did you study there?
I completed my Bachelor of Science degree at University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. I studied biology and general science.
What is your family like (if you have one)?
My husband (Brian) and I have been married for 12 years and we have two children. Katy (3rd grade) and Caleb (1st grade) attend Rejoice Christian Schools in Owasso, OK. Brian works for the City of Owasso and we all attend Rejoice Church in Owasso.
What hobbies, activities, or topics do you most like spending time on?
I love reading and art. Our family enjoys camping, hiking, and fishing.
What is one interesting fact that many people might not know about you?
I worked for the National Forest Service for a summer in Quemado, NM. I worked with a group studying endangered species, such as wolves and owls.
What is the most interesting country you have visited or would like to visit? Why?
I would like to visit Australia and New Zealand. I love nature and these countries offer some amazing areas to visit.
If you could go back and meet any one famous historical figure, who would you pick and why?
I would have to say Ruth or Ester. They both led very basic lives at first. However, when they chose to follow God in their lives, He led them to great things. I want to live a life that honors God through obedience to His calling.
